Newly Discovered Code in Atlanta Tomb Shocks Historians, Preservationists
ATLANTA, GA – Excavators uncovered a rare fragment of code Friday, thought to be written by Harold, a near-mythical coder who lived in the early twenty-first century. The code, which was chiseled into a tablet (as was common at the time), was found in a previously-unexplored hidden room found beneath the Tomb of Harold just north of Atlanta.
“Early code fragments of this nature give us a unique insight into early twenty-first century coding practices,” said Professor Goldsmith, of the State Technical Federal University’s College of Harold Studies.
Archaeologists took care to preserve the fragments, according to Professor Goldsmith, using advanced laser lithography to non-destructively extract the contents of the tablet. “Even so,” he said, “the extraction is incomplete.” Even now arguments are ongoing in the hallowed halls of the venerated College about the meaning of the find.
“It’s clear that the spelling ‘Chairzard’ was a deliberately humorous trap in the code,” Professor Emeritus Alexandra, Dean of STFU’s College of Harold Studies, said. Not all scholars are convinced. But that’s not the only inconsistency in the new code, which has already sent historians scrambling to adjust their worldview. A symposium scheduled for next month has already attracted seven new proposed talks, including the novel argument that “Kabuto,” previously thought to be a Pokémon, may actually be a “pokkemon,” a previously unknown type of creature.
“This discovery completely upends our understanding of this time period,” said Goldsmith. “We’ve only just begun to see the aftershocks.”

Preservationists Unite to Preserve Historical Find
After the code was published, we immediately set to work building a framework to allow modern people to experience the early twenty-first century style of coding and gaming. Using Pyodide, a project that brings the unique dialect that the code was written in to your web browser, we’re able to provide you with the exact same experience that a twelve-year-old in 2026 would have had running this code on their own home tablet.
Our preservationists were careful to note that the minimum possible modifications were made to the original code. “We’re actually serving an exact copy of what was read off the tablet,” said Daniel, our Chief Engineer. “But due to the limitations of the Pyodide framework, we do have to inject our own source of randomness into the code.” He assures us that the result is just like it would have been back in the day.
